The Piper Way residence exemplifies the harmonious integration of architectural lighting within a contemporary suburban setting. Designed for a family seeking to enhance their living experience, this project showcases how strategic lighting can transform a home, emphasizing both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
This residential project involved a busy family of six: two professional adults—one of whom works from home several days a week—and three young children. The house is developed over two floors, with the upper floor featuring an L-shaped layout that welcomes visitors through a modest yet warm covered entrance.
A central corridor on this level connects the children's bedrooms and a playroom, at the centre of which is an internal stairwell leading down to the bottom floor, where we find the core of the family's life.
This generous, open space is where connection, interaction, and daily rituals unfold against the backdrop of a stunning natural landscape. The kitchen, dining, and lounge areas flow together in an open plan, anchored by expansive glass windows that offer sweeping views over the surrounding hills.
It is in this space that the family gathers to share meals and moments, making it the emotional and functional centre of their home.
Understanding the family's rhythm and their varied needs was as essential as reading the architectural layout. Light needs surfaces to reflect off, and reflected light is the most eye-friendly way to fill a home with adequate yet relaxing illumination.

Two elements complete the three-dimensional display of light, putting the right light in the right place. A unique drum pendant above the dining table provides broad, diffused illumination that softens faces and anchors family life, while a slim floating light bar above the kitchen island washes the work surfaces and the ceiling, extending the sense of space, delivering efficient task light, and protecting the eye from glare.
